Privacy, terms, and child safety.

Because Atlas is built for students, safety and privacy are treated as core product requirements — not an afterthought.

This page is a placeholder template describing the policies Atlas intends to operate under. Before launching accounts, messaging, mentorship, or any feature involving minors, this content should be reviewed and finalized by qualified legal counsel, including for compliance with COPPA and applicable state privacy laws.

Privacy Policy

Atlas Academy is committed to collecting the minimum information necessary to operate the platform, and to being transparent about what is collected and why.

What we collect

  • Basic account information, where accounts exist (name, email, role)
  • Resources saved, pathways followed, and general usage patterns
  • Information voluntarily submitted through contact, mentorship, or technology request forms

What we don't do

  • We do not sell personal information to third parties
  • We do not collect more information from minors than is reasonably necessary
  • We do not use student data for targeted advertising

Terms of Use

By using Atlas Academy, users agree to use the platform for its intended purpose: learning, teaching, and connecting around STEM education.

Acceptable use

  • Resources are free to use for personal, educational, and classroom purposes
  • Community and project-showcase submissions must be the user's own work
  • Harassment, impersonation, or misuse of mentorship features is not permitted

Content

Atlas curates and links to third-party educational resources. External resources are subject to their original creators' terms and licenses.

Child Safety Policy

Because many Atlas users are minors, every feature involving direct interaction — accounts, messaging, mentorship, and community submissions — is designed around the following principles:

  • Mentorship communication is platform-mediated, not open private messaging
  • Mentor applicants go through a screening and moderation process
  • Parental or guardian consent is required where appropriate, particularly for younger students
  • Community submissions (projects, comments) are moderated before or shortly after posting
  • Students can report a concern at any time, and reports are reviewed promptly

Data We Collect

Atlas tracks aggregated, anonymized analytics to understand which resources are helping students — most-used resources, search terms, popular subjects, and general geographic reach. This data is not tied to an individual student's identity where accounts are not in use, and analytics are configured to minimize collection of children's personal information.
